Questions:

Is it better for women to sleep with or without wearing a bra?

Answer 1:

Without, for sure. Even if you have large breasts. They don't actually "need support" until you've gotten them used to wearing a bra. Like other parts of your body, your breasts actually have ligaments, tendons and muscles. They atrophy if not in use (when they have constant "support") and that's why it can be sore when you take off your bra. Once you get used to sleeping without one, they won't be sore any more.

Wearing a bra 24/7 has actually been noted to increase chances of breast cancer and fibrocystic disease?. It's actually healthy to let your breasts move around a little and be free during part of the day you're awake, too... it really helps with lymphatic circulation, and can keep your breasts healthy.

Originally, bras weren't necessary to people, even with very large mammaries. Then eventually, everyone was told they had to wear one to keep from sagging or whatever. Now, most breasts need a bra, but it's like any other body part. If you put your arm in a sling for 6 months, it would be weak and feel like it needed a sling. Bras don't keep breasts from "sagging" and if your breasts are in a bra all of the time, they may even sag more in the end.

I'm not going to tell you to ditch a bra completely (unless you want to... that's all a personal choice) but I'd definitely recommend not wearing one at night, and even at other times when you feel comfortable taking it off.

Answer 2:

My wife used to sleep with hers on all the time, and she is not big. I could not imagine anything less comfortable than having that thing on for the whole twenty-four hours.

She takes it off most of the time now. I think she finally realized she was missing out on a more comfortable sleep.

Make it five.

Answer 3:

There's speculation that wearing a constrictive bra to sleep can be damaging to lymph nodes, making one more susceptible to cancer. This hasn't been proven.

To prevent sagging? In several studies, women were asked to complete all of there daily activities (including vigorous sports) without a bra on. Overwhelmingly, the results were that the women's breast actually became LESS saggy when they did not wear a bra. This is thought to be because the ligaments that support breast tissue were properly exercised.

If a woman feels more comfortable wearing a bra at night, there isn't a reason not to do so that is scientifically proven. The answer to you question is "neither", because the reason or wearing a bra to sleep differs for each person with breasts.

Questions:

Everybody gets goosebumps, when they are cold or scared, but what really is the cause of goosebumps and I want information on what causes them, and generally about them! I almost get them every morning, so I might as well know whats going on [:

Answer 1:

Goose bumps are created when tiny muscles at the base of each hair, known as arrectores pilorum, contract and pull the hair erect. The reflex is started by the sympathetic nervous system, which is in general responsible for many fight-or-flight responses.

As a response to cold: in animals covered with fur or hair, the erect hairs trap air to create a layer of insulation. Goose bumps can also be a response to anger or fear: the erect hairs make the animal appear larger, in order to intimidate enemies. This can be observed in the intimidation displays of chimpanzees,[1] in stressed mice[2] and rats, and in frightened cats. In humans, it can even extend to piloerection as a reaction to hearing nails scratch on a chalkboard, listening to awe-inspiring music,[3] feeling or remembering strong and positive emotions (e.g., after winning a sports event),[4] or to an intellectual or spiritual epiphany.
Piloerection as a response to cold or emotion is vestigial in humans; as humans retain only very little body hair, the reflex (in humans) now provides no known benefit.

Questions:

How often would I have to work out? For how long? Whats best to eat to achieve this?..

I have to walk my boyfriends' brothers' wedding late Agaust this year and I am freaking out. I have got to flatten my stomach by then or i will look weird in the super tight dress I have to wear. Is this a reasonable goal? How long will it take me? Please help :)

Answer 1:

Well it's already the first week in June and your want to be ready in about 6 or 7 weeks, whew!!! Not much time, lets get started. First start by getting up earlier than usual. Around 5:30 am to do some of you workouts. Getting up early shocks your metabolism because the body needs more energy to get going. Right? This will start your system on the road to weight loss. That early start with about 10 minutes of stretching. Have a cup of coffee to get the blood going also. Do all the situps you can. Just do them. 15 or 20 whatever, we don't have alot of time to work with. Rest 1 minute repeat, do this for 6 sets. Already you are breathing hard and feel worn, because the body is working extra hard at being up earlier and then going right into exercise. If the early morning hours lets you get your cardio in, go ahead and do it. 30 minutes. Diet. Cut all current meal portions in half, just cut them in half, nothing fancy or complicated, CUT IN HALF! Cut out all bread products, all gravies, candies, chips, night snacks, etc. If you crave at night eat a banana, other fruit or best a non-fat yogurt. There are some tasty ones out there. In the evening do another 6 sets of situps maxing out each set. Cardo again. The trick is to stay with getting up earlier. Yes its hard, thats why it is so effective. Why do you think the Army gets up so early, it is intense training to the max. Do this until you wedding, you will be ready, or you can wimp out and the wedding date will be there before you know it and you have wasted all those days. I believe you will make it, best of luck to you, stay tough!!! Get mean!!!

Answer 2:

Change your eating habits (try going with less starch and bread.. or try to avoid brown foods in general. also, eat lots of fruit and vegetables!). eating healthier is the main way to loose stomach fat because the first area that your body burns fat from is your mid section. also, do sit ups AND crunches. it seems redundant, but they work different muscles.

Besides, situps, crunches, cardio workouts, skipping with a rope, swimming.

Questions:

Based on your own family's experience, what do you think we should do to improve health care in America?

Answer 1:

Boy, where do I start?

I'd like to see insurance companies have less control over what medical decisions are made for an individual. If a team of doctors has determined that a particular treatment is the best choice, why does a corporation, with no medical background, get to deny that treatment?

I'd like to see drug companies have less influence over consumers. Since they've been allowed to advertise their latest thing on television, patients are telling their doctors what to prescribe. Generic drugs may work just as well, but we are a brand loving society. Rather than sticking with the tested (and inexpensive) generics, we push our doctors to prescribe the new drug we saw on tv last night. Not only does this encourage people to spend more money on drugs unnecessarily, it encourages the drug companies to continue developing new versions of similar drugs. I read that we haven't developed a totally new antibiotic in decades. Rather than develop a drug that will be used once, drug companies focus on new variations of drugs for long term use, because they can make money off of it. And boy, can they make money! I know that the true cost includes both the development AND production of the drug, but it seems like the companies are making a heck of a profit. If they can sell the same drug for a fraction of the cost in other countries, why can't they sell it for a reasonable price here?

I'd like to see every citizen of the United States guaranteed basic health care at reasonable prices. We claim to be advanced, enlightened, the best country in the world, and yet our citizens often go without medical care because they can't afford it - or can't afford the health insurance. The insurance provided through my job is a flat rate regardless of how many people it covers. I am single, no dependents, and yet my insurance premiums cost the same as a co-worker with a family of five. At one point, between jobs, I tried to get independent insurance coverage and was refused because of my weight. I was within their acceptable weight range (which was only 17 pounds higher than the upper "healthy" limit for my height), but because I had recently lost 30 pounds they refused me and told me to try again in six months, so they could "be sure I'd keep the weight off." I've visited insurance companies as part of my previous job. I've seen the 40 acre professionally landscaped site with walking paths and lakes. I've eaten in the executive lunch rooms and employee cafeterias that served better food than most restaurants I've been to. I've seen the three story fountains in the lobby, and I know one company in particular that as a matter of policy closes its doors at noon on Fridays in the summer. When my premiums go to fund the insurance company's private fitness club, I have a problem.

It's unrealistic to think that we could easily change to a national health care plan in this country. It would involve wiping out all insurance companies, and creating one enormous new government entity. Instead, we need to work within the system we have to reduce costs and increase coverage. So my suggestion? Start controlling the insurance and drug companies, and stop letting them control us. Or more specifically, stop letting them control you, our government.

Answer 2:

Having lived in Australia for five years, I am in favor of some form of universal health care system. I am one of the many un-insured with in this country and without having VA benefits, I would be forced to go without health care or face great debt. Being unemployed and disabled makes it even more difficult.

Any universal health care system will have to be two fold. Public and private. Privately insured and government funded. The government funded would have to have some form of bulk billing by doctors and hospitals to keep the overall cost down. Services would have to be combined as well wherever possible to prevent double billing. ie... seeing a GP for a problem then being referred to a specialist, then having to return to the GP for further direction. And of course, no universal health care would be effective unless it included dental coverage as many health problems are related to poor oral care. The major drug manufacturing companies have to be on board as well if this were to succeed.

The problem with universal health care is there inevitably becomes a huge backlog of patients waiting for surgery to be approved and there is the tendancy to use less expensive methods of treatment which can and often does, does nothing for the patient. (cancer treatments, heart, hiv/aids etc...)

I think any universal health care plan would have to come with a income based scheme or means testing. If you can afford to pay for health care you should pay, however you would be able to recieve a percentage back through a medicare rebate scheme.

Additionally, the government should encourage those who can afford private health care to purchase it. The government could offer tax incentives or rebate a portion of the cost. Businesses should also be encouraged to continue supporting the health care plans of their employee's.

Early intervention would be the greatest saving to any health care system. Catching a potential problem before it becomes something worse is the greatest asset offered by universal health care.

It is also certain that the vast majority of people in this country would be willing to contribute to a universal health care system if it was affordable and maintained the quality of care now available.

In closing, the possibilities are many and I have only touched on a few of my initial thoughts. Universal Health Care is possible in this great country and the time for it is now. Thanks.

Questions: I don't want to sound really stupid by asking this but I'm 18 and when I was about 3 or 4, my doctor said I would be tall when I am older. I'm 5ft 4", which I know is not too tall. I'm worried that lack of calcium could have stunted my height, so I'm taking calcium supplements. But are there any exercises I could do to make myself taller, or is it too late for that?

Taller

Answer 1:

No, there's nothing you can eat or do to make yourself taller - but I really don't think you should be worried about it! 5'4" is a very good height for a woman - I'm pretty sure it's just about average anyway, but even if it's a little bit on the small side I would say that's a good thing, not a bad thing!

Smaller is feminine, sexy, and very huggable. And it comes with little feet too, which is always preferable to big ugly flappy flipper man feet..!

Your height is really not a problem at all - wear heels if you want to appear a bit taller when out and about, they'll make your legs look longer too.

At age 3 or 4 it's impossible to tell how tall a person will be - your doctor was just guesstimating based on typical growth patterns - not stating fact. I'm not sure calcium supplements are necessary or even very wise unless your doctor's suggested you would benefit from them - I would drop them, eat healthily, and enjoy the fact you're not a big-footed giraffe in a frock! :D

PS. No offense intended to any big footed giraffes reading this... :-/

Answer 1:
I am afraid your maximum height potential was determined at the moment of your conception. Malnutrition, injury, disease or toxins may prevent you reaching it,but you can neither exceed or accelerate it.

Neither calcium supplements nor exercise will have any effect and at 18 some individuals will already have undergone fusion of their long bone epiphyses, making further increase in height impossible.

At 5 ft 4 inches is in fact the average final height of a UK female.

Answer 2:

Balaji, we are both lazy and we know it..you lost quite some weight...that is great!!!

I lost 42 lbs that's not bad, but it's so much harder to keep on eating always what 's right and to exercise....I have exactly the same problem...I want to exercise every day then then I find 100 excuses to do it the next day...this has been happening for over a week now, and I know I have to overcome that laziness soon because otherwise i might be back where I started off...we both have to encourage each other....and you know what is the hardest part?

To start, so tomorrow, we both start again..you email me...and let me know if you did some exercise tomorrow...and hopefully the answer is ''yes'' and I will send you a short email and I hope I can say ''Yes' Balaji, I did some workout...and we do that every day..one hour or some exercise on a regular basis....before we slip back into bad habits -

Question: How to lose weight fast?

Lose weight

Answer 1:

Everyone wants to lose weight fast but there could be a problem of gaining it back if too fast. also a too strict diet makes you crave more. A registered dietitian told me to eat from all food groups and just eat smaller portions. ( measure things out if need be. ) I stick to 1200 calories per day and never skip breakfast. ( sparkpeople.com is a good site. )
Also exercising - either walking, dancing, going up and down stairs, squats against wall of work out at a gym.

Answer 2:

Dont you think if there was some magical pill or something you could take, everyone and their grandma that wanted to lose weight would be taking it? Its just not that simple. Its going to take some determination on your part. It just depends on how much effort you are wanting to put into it. In order to maximize your weight loss you need to go on a diet, coupled with daily exercise, and you need to start keeping a journal and counting your calories. Heres a simple math problem.

The number of calories you take in minus the number of calories you burn will determine if you lose or gain weight. If the number is positive you gain weight, if its zero, your weight stays the same, if its negative you lose weight. I would start on a 1000 calorie a day diet. Anything less and its going to be bad for your body. No sodium (no salt, processed foods, fast food) it will cause you to retain water and bloat you. No sugary drinks like sodas. WATER WATER WATER. I also highly recommend either the P90X or the Insanity workout. They are both great, and you can do them in the comfort of your own home for only 40 mins a day, 5 days a week. If you can do both of these, depending on how hard you want to work at it. You can easily lose 30 lbs in around 40-50 days.

Question: I have headaches, EVERYDAY. And I get dizzy when I stretch or get up from my seat, I even get them just randomly. But when I get dizzy sometimes, I have to grab a hold of something. Oh, and when I'm swimming, If I go underwater, I get A LOT of pressure in my head towards the forehead. Does anyone know what's wrong? What does it mean to have daily headaches, dizziness, and pressure in the head when I'm swimming? HELP!

Daily headaches, dizziness, and pressure in the head. Help?

Answer 1:

Plagued with headaches from childhood to middle age I have had many different types of headaches. Also I know of many others who have headaches which the following has helped. I AM NOT A DOCTOR but someone who is trying to help people get rid of … well, a headache.

This is not meant as a substitute for seeing a Doctor which I recommend. However, if you read this and follow the recommendations at the END you may be headache free before the Dr.’s appointment date.

Headaches/Migraines can be caused either (1) internally (e.g. injury to the head) or (2) externally (e.g.STRESS). What your DDS, ER and MD may not tell you are that most headaches are stress related. Even from your write up you sound stressed. They can be further broken down into the following categories and the treatment depends on the type of headache you have.

MIGRAINE headaches are usually one sided, more common in females and characterized by at least one of the following; sensitivity to light, pain behind one eye, throbbing brought on by bright lights, chocolate, cheese, red wine or menstrual cycle. You can also have a visual aura around lights and things may taste odd.

HYPERTENSION headaches are at the top and back of your head and throb. You usually wake up with this headache and after about 3 to 4 hours it subsides and may be caused by high blood pressure. You may need medicines to reduce your high blood pressure.

CLUSTER headaches can be seen in an adolescent to adult, more common in males, one sided, usually over temple or eye area, may have a blood shot eye(s), and may wake you up at night, runny nose, sweating, tearing of the eyes, usually worse in Spring or Fall (allergy season) and lasts 15 min. to 2 hrs.

MUSCULAR TENSION headaches feels: band-like distribution around head - like wearing a very tight head band and is brought on by stress, tension, fatigue and work.

TEMPORAL Arthritis headaches usually in the over age 50 crowd and are characterized by one side of temple area, pain in jaw, burning, aching, throbbing, sensitive scalp, fever and tender arteries. If you experience visual symptoms go to ER.

CERVICOGENIC (neck caused) headaches - Pain in upper neck and back of head or pain when moving the head with reduced movement in neck area is brought on by stress, head movement and head alignment. It may be confused as it can mimic a migraine headache including nausea. If it is a head and neck related alignment you can have temporal headaches or headaches that arc from behind the ear forward. They are characterized by possible sharp pain behind your ear at the base of the skull along with correlated shoulder pain which can last for days and weeks at a time until misalignment is corrected. Medications provide only short term relief when taken.

SINUS headaches are localized in nature; certain positions are worse like the nose area, steady throb, and worse in the morning and may be seasonal.

SUBARACHNOID Hemorrhage headaches are abrupt onset, constant stiff neck, feels like someone hit you in the head, Caused by high blood pressure, stress or aneurysm can be life threatening.

BRAIN Tumor headaches are characterized by; onset in morning and evening, varies from mild to severe, may throb, wakes you up at night, symptoms getting worse, neck stiffness worse than ever.

SUBDURAL Hematoma headaches are caused by trauma. It is a slow bleed in the brain. People can and do die from this.

Here is what you do for them besides making a Doctor’s appt.
Migraines, muscular tension, cervicogenic, and some sinus and cluster headaches may be helped by a chiropractor. If it is sinus, you need to ask the chiropractor if they have a sinus/cranial treatment.
For Hypertension, cluster, temporal arteritis and brain tumor-see a Dr.
For Temporal arteritis with visual impairment, subarachnoid hemorrhage and subdural hematoma, go to the ER now.

In addition to SEEING a Doctor you may consider counseling. While you are waiting for the Dr.’s and or counselor’s appt. you might try the following and end up cancelling the appts. as it may work!

There are FIVE home remedies that may work for you as they do/did for me; (1) First drink 16 to 24 ounces of water not soda as dehydration may cause headaches. The second home remedy for all headaches that has worked for me and even my most skeptical friends is (2) eating a banana! My MOST skeptical of friends was SO DESPERATE he eventually tried it and claims that it cures 40% of his headaches/migraines. Bananas are loaded with Potassium which helps alleviate all headaches. In addition it is very filling and an empty stomach can also aggravate a headache.
(3) Third after drinking water, eating a banana and taking your chosen OTC meds take a SHOWER. Other than that OTC meds are your only alternative. (4) Then go take a nap. (5) De-stress by; turning off the phone, turning off the TV, turning off the computer, and don’t watch the news!

Time to do everything to DE-STRESS!!!

Answer 2: I have the same problem and my doctor told me that I have low blood pressure. which is a very good thing to have but the only flaw of it is headaches and dizziness. I'm not saying this is your problem but if it is drink. LOTS of water

Question:
I'm 21 and get 8 hours of sleep at night and wake up still so tired. whats wrong with me. am i getting too much sleep?

Why am i still so tired in the morning after 8 hours of sleep?

Answer 1:

I'm 25, and I used to feel the same way. All throughout college I would sleep a regular 8 hours and wake up feeling like I didn't even rest. Nothing could wake me up, not even caffeine because I was sensitive to it. I realized it was because I wasn't getting enough real nutrition in my diet. My doctor told me to start taking multivitamins because she figured that would take care of it. I even started drinking Shakeology which is a really expensive nutritional drink. Finally someone convinced me to try taking Zeal which is like a multivitamin/energy shot all in one drink. It has guarana in it which is similar to caffeine but doesn't make you crash later... it gives me energy all day long. Then I started working out and eating better because I had the energy to do so and I felt even better. You should try drinking something similar that has lots of vitamins and nutrition in it and guarana if you can find it. It'll give you long lasting energy.

Answer 2:

It could be anything from having low blood pressure to just being mentally exhausted all the time to being anemic and not having enough iron in your system. It can also stem from not being hydrated enough (do you drink plenty of water?). It can be anything based on what you posted, but I don't think 8 hours of sleep is too much. It's just right. If anything, you're getting a lot of rest. Another possibility is chronic fatigue syndrome or even diabetes or an imbalance in hormones. As you can tell, it can be anything. Best thing to do is get it checked by a doctor. They can run blood tests and etc. for you. Hope you feel better soon :)

Sammy: I'm 17 & I've been having sex with my boyfriend for about 3 months. We always use a condom,& he always pulls out before & he finishes on his own. We never seem to find rips or tears on the condoms.
My last period was 7/3/12 & I'm getting the symptoms/signs for my period to arrive (Tender breasts, back aches, bloating, etc). But I feel like I'm a few days late. My period has been irregular since I first started it. But I'm just wondering if it's sex that delays the period, or stress. I just really want to know 'cause I'm kinda scared to find out if I'm pregnant. Please help!

Period

Answer 1:

Sex AND Stress delays your period. And you know what delays it even more? Convincing yourself that you might be pregnant. Not joking..this is a fact.

If semen hasn't entered your vagina, you are not pregnant. And considering he wears a condom AND doesn't ejaculate because of the sex...then there's no possible way for you to be pregnant..

But you should let him finish seriously...that's like not good for a guy..

Answer 2: My periods have always been very irregular. (I have one maybe every 4-6 months and they last maybe 3days). But this is not a new thing since I have been sexually active (I am married), it has occurred since mine first began at 10. There are many things that can lead to late or irregular periods. Yes, pregnancy is possible. Stress most definitely can, also. Then there are things such as diet changes, activity level changes, changing hormones, elevation changes, added stress.. There are many things that can cause irregularity. If you are used to them coming on the same exact time period and they are late that could be cause for some worry. But don't stress too much, that won't help anything. You can go to a clinic and take a pee test or buy a cheap test to be sure you are not pregnant and rule that out... Good luck, just remember don't stress or worry - it will be fine. :) Have a great day
