Important nutrients found in the fatty fish like salmon and tuna can prevent the progression of macular degeneration related to age (AMD), the leading cause of blindness of the elderly, according to the Telegraph on 9/6
Researchers at Tufts University in Boston, England said omega 3 fatty acids in fish may protect against the disease. The study interviewed nearly 3,000 people on the diet and then control overall growth of AMD in eight years. Results showed that the progression of both dry and wet form of AMD decreased by 25% in those who have diets rich in omega 3 fatty acids.
In addition, the study also found that the use of foods such as bread made from whole grain wheat can prevent the development of AMD.
